Goal: get to a working Plan Card in ≤ 2 questions, then show defaults and let the user edit.

# Question Default if skipped
1 "What region? I can recommend if you're not sure." eastus
2 "Linux or Windows? Default is Ubuntu 24.04." Ubuntu2404 (Linux)

Silent defaults (show in Plan Card, don't ask)

  • Size: Standard_D2s_v5 (2 vCPU / 8 GB)
  • Auth: SSH key from ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub (Linux) — read the file; ask only if missing
  • VNet: create new <vm-name>-vnet with 10.0.0.0/16
  • Subnet: default with 10.0.0.0/24
  • NSG: create new, allow SSH 22 (Linux) or RDP 3389 (Windows) from the user's current public IP (detect via curl -s ifconfig.me or equivalent) — only fall back to * if detection fails, and always flag the chosen source in the Plan Card with a ⚠ so the user can edit before apply
  • Public IP: Standard SKU, dynamic
  • OS disk: 30 GB Premium SSD
  • Zone: none (regional)

If the user is in a region you haven't validated, call compute_vm_list-skus to confirm Standard_D2s_v5 is available there before locking it in. If not, fall back to whatever the recommender suggests.

This skill provides comprehensive workflows for managing Azure compute resources, including VM creation, recommendations, and capacity management. It incorporates solid security practices like secret scrubbing and restricted network rules, with minor considerations related to external data ingestion.

Routes Azure VM and Virtual Machine Scale Set requests to five specialized workflows: VM recommendation and pricing, VM creation and provisioning, troubleshooting connectivity issues, capacity reservation, and machine enrollment. Use this skill when a user needs to size/compare VMs, deploy bare infrastructure, fix RDP/SSH access, or manage capacity reservations on Azure.

Generated from the current SKILL.md.

Does this skill handle application deployments like Docker or web apps?
No. This skill routes bare VM and VMSS infrastructure requests only. For deploying applications (Docker services, web apps, APIs, serverless workloads), use the azure-prepare skill instead.
What VM connectivity issues does this skill cover?
It covers RDP/SSH connection failures, port refused errors, black screen issues, and password resets. Use the VM Troubleshooter workflow when a user can't connect to an existing VM.
Can this skill help me choose the right VM size and pricing?
Yes. The VM Recommender workflow recommends VM sizes, compares options, and estimates costs based on workload requirements (web, backend, GPU, HPC, dev/test, etc.).
Does this skill support Capacity Reservation Groups?
Yes. It includes a dedicated workflow for creating, associating, and disassociating Capacity Reservation Groups to guarantee and pre-provision VM capacity.
