Avoid Negative Parallelisms
AI overuses constructions like "Not only...but..." or "It's not just about..., it's..."
AI pattern:
It's not just about the beat riding under the vocals; it's part of the aggression and atmosphere. It's not merely a song, it's a statement.
Human alternative:
The heavy beat adds to the aggressive tone.
Another AI pattern (common in blog/essay intros):
It's not about finding bad words. It's about understanding why they're bad.
Human alternative:
The goal is to understand why certain words read as AI.
Words to watch: Not only...but also, It's not just X, it's Y, It's not merely...it's, More than just, It's not about X, it's about Y, This isn't about X, it's about Y
Fix: Say the thing directly. If you need contrast, make it specific and non-formulaic (avoid the mirrored “It’s not X. It’s Y.” cadence).
Good rewrites usually do one of these:
- State the positive claim (“The goal is…”, “What matters is…”)
- Name the real target (“This is a pattern problem, not a vocabulary problem”)
- Use contrast once, without the template (“It’s less about X and more about Y” only when the contrast matters)
