Preset Web Fonts

Easily use web fonts from Google Fonts and other providers.

Installation

import { defineConfig, presetWebFonts, presetWind3 } from 'unocss'

export default defineConfig({
  presets: [
    presetWind3(),
    presetWebFonts({
      provider: 'google',
      fonts: {
        sans: 'Roboto',
        mono: 'Fira Code',
      },
    }),
  ],
})

Providers

  • google - Google Fonts (default)
  • bunny - Privacy-friendly alternative
  • fontshare - Quality fonts by ITF
  • fontsource - Self-hosted open source fonts
  • coollabs - Privacy-friendly drop-in replacement
  • none - Treat as system font

Font Configuration

fonts: {
  // Simple
  sans: 'Roboto',

  // Multiple (fallback)
  mono: ['Fira Code', 'Fira Mono:400,700'],

  // Detailed
  lato: [
    {
      name: 'Lato',
      weights: ['400', '700'],
      italic: true,
    },
    {
      name: 'sans-serif',
      provider: 'none',
    },
  ],
}

Usage

<p class="font-sans">Roboto</p>
<code class="font-mono">Fira Code</code>

Local Fonts

Self-host fonts:

import { createLocalFontProcessor } from '@unocss/preset-web-fonts/local'

presetWebFonts({
  provider: 'none',
  fonts: { sans: 'Roboto' },
  processors: createLocalFontProcessor({
    cacheDir: 'node_modules/.cache/unocss/fonts',
    fontAssetsDir: 'public/assets/fonts',
    fontServeBaseUrl: '/assets/fonts',
  })
})

Emit Fonts to Build Output

In CI or a first build, fonts downloaded to public may not reach dist before the build finishes. Use the onDownload callback to collect fonts and emit them as Vite assets:

// vite.config.ts
import { createLocalFontProcessor } from '@unocss/preset-web-fonts/local'

const emittedFonts = new Map()

export const fontProcessor = createLocalFontProcessor({
  onDownload(filename, buf) {
    emittedFonts.set(filename, buf)
  },
})

export default defineConfig({
  plugins: [
    UnoCSS(),
    {
      name: 'unocss:font-emit',
      apply: 'build',
      generateBundle() {
        for (const [filename, source] of emittedFonts)
          this.emitFile({ type: 'asset', fileName: `assets/fonts/${filename}`, source })
        emittedFonts.clear()
      },
    },
  ],
})

Then pass fontProcessor to presetWebFonts({ processors: [fontProcessor] }) in uno.config.ts.

Configures and extends UnoCSS, an atomic CSS engine compatible with Tailwind CSS syntax but customizable via presets, rules, shortcuts, and variants. Use this skill when setting up UnoCSS in a project, writing custom utility rules, or integrating presets like Wind, Icons, or Attributify.

Generated from the current SKILL.md.

Is UnoCSS compatible with Tailwind CSS?
Yes. UnoCSS is a superset of Tailwind CSS, so basic utility syntax from Tailwind works directly. The skill includes Preset Wind3 for Tailwind v3 / Windi CSS compatibility and Preset Wind4 for Tailwind v4 with modern CSS features.
How do I know what utilities and presets are available in a project?
Check for `uno.config.*` or `unocss.config.*` files in the project root to see what presets, rules, and shortcuts are configured. If the project setup is unclear, stick to basic `class` usage and avoid advanced features like attributify mode.
Can I use UnoCSS with Nuxt or Vite?
Yes. The skill includes Vite integration instructions and a Nuxt module for seamless setup in both frameworks.
Does this skill support CSS icons?
Yes, via Preset Icons, which provides pure CSS icons from Iconify with any icon set available.
What version of UnoCSS does this skill cover?
The skill is based on UnoCSS 66.x, generated at 2026-01-28.
