Reference During Report Generation
1. Check if target date is included in holiday table
2. If included → Skip
3. For weekly/monthly reports, exclude holidays from working daysData Collection vs Report Generation
| Operation | Target Period | Weekend/Holiday Handling |
|---|---|---|
| Data Collection | All days, all hours | All included |
| Report Generation | Business days only | Holidays skipped |
Data Collection Policy
All activities, including those outside business hours, are recorded for the following reasons:
- Flexible remote work - Activities may occur at non-traditional hours
- Time zone coordination - International collaboration across time zones
- Emergency response - On-call duties and urgent issues
- Self-development - Technical blogging, OSS contributions, learning activities
By recording all activities, work inventory and analysis can accurately reflect the true scope of work, including weekend deployments, after-hours support, and personal development efforts.
Important Distinction
- Holidays in the table affect report generation (skip creating reports on holidays)
- Data retrieval from workIQ always includes all days and times
- Weekly/monthly reports summarize data from all days, but only count business days for metrics
Time Range for Reports
- Daily report: Full 24 hours (00:00-23:59) of the target date
- Weekly report: 7 days × 24 hours each
- Monthly report: All business days × 24 hours each
No filtering by business hours - all activities throughout the day are included.
Weekend/Holiday Activity Handling
Activities performed on weekends or holidays are rolled into the next business day's report:
Example scenarios:
| Activity Date | Activity Type | Included in Report |
|---|---|---|
| Saturday | Emergency hotfix | Monday's report |
| Sunday | Blog post writing | Monday's report |
| Holiday | Customer email response | Next business day |
| Friday 23:00 | Late-night deployment | Friday's report |
Rationale:
- Avoid skipping weekend/holiday contributions
- Maintain visibility of all work efforts
- Provide complete context for the next business day
- Ensure weekend deployments and on-call work are recognized
Implementation: When generating a business day report, include activities from:
- The target business day itself (00:00-23:59)
- Any preceding non-business days since the last report
Example: Monday's report includes Friday night + Saturday + Sunday + Monday activities.
